About Us
Inspired by the global education initiatives of United World Colleges and the international movement of Waldorf schools, SelfDesign High is a distributed learning high school with a Liberal Arts and Peace Studies foundation. We offer student-centred, enquiry-based programs which include the entire BC grade 10-12 high school graduation program as well as a diversity of dynamic independent studies and community initiatives.
SelfDesign High has its nexus in beautiful Nelson, BC, Canada, but its reach is global. We are actively cultivating links with schools across Canada and all around the world.
Where did ISK go?
The International School of the Kootenays, a not for profit society and registered charity, was created in February 2005 to support the birth of a dream for Nelson - a peace-centered, Waldorf inspired International High School.
Over the next 2 years, with much support and good work, the school shifted its focus from being a school in a building to a learning community available to youth all over B.C. In February of 2009 ISK merged with SelfDesign Learning Community and is ever so happy to be part of this vibrant K to 12 program.
ISK has transformed to the Kootenay Society for LifeLong Learning.
Its purpose is: Through fostering lifelong learning we celebrate the universal human spirit by developing and supporting learning experiences that awaken and engage human potential. Our society engages with the advancement of Peace and Social Justice through the creation and support of not for profit courses, seminars, projects and workshops for high school learners, community members and international guests.
